The Capability Maturity Model, Integrated (CMMI) combines Systems Engineering, software development and Integrated Product and Process Development (IPPD) processes into a unified model, suitable for determining the capability of an organization to do successful system development.
In contrast, marketing materials for MEMS foundries contain lists of available process steps (e.g., DRIE, oxidation, electroplating). When working with a MEMS foundry, you provide both a 2D mask file and a process flow to execute the design, composed of the process steps offered by the foundry . Extending our previous example, here the bakery lists recipe steps they can execute (e.g., sifting flour, whipping eggs whites, and greasing a cake pan) that can be combined to form a recipe. You supply the shape of the letter (the layout) and the desired recipe steps organized into a unique recipe to bake the cake (process flow).
